Your tasks

You will work in an interdisciplinary team of basic researchers, computational biologists and environmental and biomedical scientists to improve our understanding of the impact of chemical agents on our and environmental health as part of the large EU PARC Project.

Specifically your tasks will be:

  • Working closely with scientists all over Europe to derive new approaches for analysing and interpreting the impact of chemicals on organisms
  • Developing the use of new approach methodologies within chemical risk assessment
  • Evaluate and contribute towards mechanistic understanding of chemical exposure in a variety of systems
  • Establish key networks throughout Europe to improve chemical usage and monitoring

Your Profile

  • We are seeking a highly motivated PhD candidate who has a background in bioinformatics, computational biology, systems biology, or equivalent discipline.
  • High proficiency in at least one (statistical) programming language (i.e. R, python, etc)
  • Motivation to develop new methodology to analyse and interpret data
  • Experience with any type of OMICs data is essential
  • Deep learning would be desirable but is optional

Our Offer

In this PhD, the successful applicant will develop a vast network of the European chemical risk assessment community through the deep integration into the EU PARC Project which spans all 27 member states. With over 200 institutions linked within this project, the student will have the opportunity to work and develop new approaches that may be integrated into the current chemical risk assessment community and provide a new outlook on chemical safety across Europe. 

The student will have the opportunity to learn a variety of computational techniques and approaches and contribute to the lively environment here at the University Hosptial Cologne.
