Beschreibung

Your tasks

  • Oversee metabolomics projects of research groups of the CRC. Advise on experimental design, sample preparation and data interpretation to facilitate the publication of multiple interdisciplinary projects.
  • Design metabolomics workflows and establish data analysis approaches for both untargeted/targeted metabolomic profiling and stable isotope tracing studies.
  • Operate orbitrap and triple quadrupole mass spectrometers, including minor maintenance work. Produce mass spec data in a timely manner to meet deadlines. Ensure the validity and reliability of metabolomics experiments.
  • Develop and curate in-house metabolite databases. Work with bioinformaticians to review and develop approaches for data processing.

Your Profile

  • Doctorate degree (PhD) in analytical sciences, chemistry, biochemistry, biotechnology or a closely related discipline.
  • Hands-on experience with high-resolution LC-MS instrumentation and data processing software for the analysis of small molecules.
  • A strong enthusiasm for metabolomics approaches and technologies.
  • A good understanding of metabolic pathways is an advantage.
  • A collaborative, service-oriented mindset and strong organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated communication skills to scientists across different seniority levels.

Our Offer

  • A varied job in an international, multidisciplinary and innovative environment.
  • A diverse and fair working environment with appreciative cooperation.
  • A broad spectrum of state-of-the-art equipment and the excellent infrastructure of the technology platforms at the CECAD cluster.
  • Internal and external training opportunities.
  • Flexible working time models to support family life.

Your future with us

Working at the University Hospital Cologne and the Medical Faculty means helping to shape the future - the future of medicine, of patients and, of course, your own future. You benefit from 60 clinics and institutes as well as numerous other departments and facilities and more than 12,000 jobs. The Faculty of Medicine of the University of Cologne and the University Hospital Cologne assume important social tasks in research, teaching and patient care. A close network with many university and non-university partners guarantees an internationally successful science and the excellent education of our students.

Your future in detail

The Collaborative Research Center 1218 "Mitochondrial Regulation of cellular function" is an interdisciplinary research network of several faculties and institutions, funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG). The research mission is to study how mitochondria influence activity, differentiation and survival of the cell. The CRC 1218 is organized in seventeen scientific and five central projects. The bioanalytical central project (Z02) has been developed to meet the challenging demand of a systematic analysis of how mitochondria interfere with cellular functions and provides a broad spectrum of methods to dissect cellular and tissue metabolism at the bioenergetics, metabolite, and proteome level. The bioanalytical platform is equipped with state-of-the-art mass spectrometers for proteomics and metabolomics analysis. We are seeking a highly motivated scientist to run the metabolomics sub-platform of project Z02 and provide support for the CRC research groups. The job holder will have the unique opportunity to participate in diverse high impact metabolomics projects across health and disease and will work in close collaboration with the mass spectrometrists of the group of Prof. Frezza and the CECAD Lipidomics/Metabolomics Facility.
